1. Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most famous leaders and advocates for justice in the world. 2. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porbandar, India on October 2, 1869. 3. Mohandas went to England to study law at University College London.  4. Gandhi led the fight for Indian independence from the British Empire. 5. Gandhi also fought for civil rights and liberties for the people. 6. Gandhi is often called Mahatma Gandhi. The Mahatma is a term that means Great Soul. 7. Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948.  He was shot dead while attending a prayer meeting. 8. He organized several non-violent civil disobedience campaigns. One of Gandhi's most successful protest was Salt March.  9. Gandhi was put in prison several times for organizing these protests.  10. He would often observe fast for peace and communal harmony.
